Employability Skills

What does this number mean for our country? Though it is positive news compared to 33.95% in 2014, it also means that over 50% of students are not employable. This goes to show that having a degree does not directly imply that you are ready for a job. These students are lacking are employability skills.

What are employability skills?

Employability skills are those aspects of your professional behaviour which can be learnt in order to be more effective in the workplace. Two people may have the same educational degree and even comparable grades. However, they can differ in their employability skills. These employability skills have the power to make or break your chances of securing a job.

Though most job description don’t explicitly state the employability skills they are looking for, the same is assessed during the interview stage by the interviewer. There is no defined list of skills that come under this category. However, they generally involve communication, presentation, attitude towards work, ability to handle pressure, discipline etc. They also depend on the type of job in question e.g. being a nurse would require a lot of patience while being a TV show host requires more energy and enthusiasm.

An employer may assess your problem-solving skills by giving you a case study to solve. The ability to work in cooperation with a team is often judged by the extracurricular activities taken by during your education or in your previous job. Employers check if you are self-motivated by assessing your hobbies and interests and if you have taken up courses to improve your chances to get your dream job. This is how employers get to know each candidate beyond their educational qualifications and then take a call if they are a good fit for their organization.

A job interview is not a test of your knowledge but your ability to use it at the right time.

A job interview is where employability skills are assessed. Preparing yourself mentally for the interview is a very critical aspect. Most of the times candidates have the employability skills need for the job. However, they fall short in expressing them clearly and lose out on golden opportunities.

This is where Vedant Foundation’s Employability Course comes in. The course teaches candidates how they can ace the interview process by showcasing their employability skills. We have designed comprehensive modules, one of 30 hours and the other of 48 hours. Our trainers go through the step by step process of walking the candidates through the different rounds of an interview process.

The first impression of a candidate is created by his/her resume. Resume building is part of the course and we help create an eye-catching resume which makes you shine. We also conduct group discussions and mock interviews to build confidence for the main day. During the group discussions, we also teach soft-skills e.g. sharing your views while respecting the opinion of others so that you don’t come off as aggressive. In the mock interviews, we help you present your own experiences in a way that showcase your hidden talents. Often a person has employability skills but doesn’t know how to share them with the interviewer. We take special effort to coach the candidate in this aspect. We work with you like mentors so that you get over your fear of facing the interview and concentrate only on acing the interview.

Employability skills are the need of the hour. Our course gives candidates a special advantage in running an overcrowded race. Step up and improve your skills today. This will make you stand out in the long run. The best investment is to invest in yourself.
